About Myanmar
The civilization of Myanmar has started since the 1st century with Pyu Kingdom (thayekhittaya), Beithano (Vishnu) and Hanlin.
The first Myanmar Empire was founded by King
Anawrahta with its capital Bagan in the early 11th
century(1044 AD) . From this time on, the Buddhism
has grown up to date.
Under
the Reign of King Anawrahta and other Bagan Kings ,
many Pagodas and Temples were built all over the
country . At the end of 13th century, The Bagan
Empire was destroyed by Mongols.
The
second Empire was founded by King Bayint Naung with
its capital Bago( Hamsawaddy) in 16th century (1556
AD).
The
third Empire was founded by King Alaungpaya in 18th
century (1752 AD).
In the
19th century, the Empire was invaded three times by
the British and in 1885 the whole country of Myanmar
was under the control of the British Empire. Myanmar
regained its independence on 4th January 1948, after
the Second World War.
Geography
Myanmar
is a south-east Asian country and is situated
between N. lat. 9 30’ – 28*31’ and E. long.92*10’ &
101*11’ covering an area approx. 261228sq.mile
(676577 sq.km). It is an elongated piece of land,
1300 miles from north to south and, 575 miles (925
Km) from east to west. The coast line of Myanmar is
a total length of 1760 miles(2832 Km) starting from
the southern tip of Bangladesh up to the Victoria
point. The neighboring countries of Myanmar are
Bangladesh, India, China, Laos and Thailand.
People
Myanmar is a union of 135 different races. The
major races are Bamar, Chin , Kachin, Shan, kayah,
Kayin, Mon and Rakhine. The population of Myanmar is
over 56 million and the majority is Bamar, more than
70 percent of the population.
Languages
The official language of the country is Myanmar.
But English is widely spoken and understood. All the
nationals and ethnic tribal groups speak their own
languages and dialects.
Cultures
Myanmar is between two great civilized countries
India and China. So Myanmar was influenced by these
big countries.
Religion
About 89% of Myanmar’s people are Buddhist . The
rest are Christian, Hindu, Islam and Animist.
